How to plan a home goal without guessing the monthly number

Turn a down-payment dream into a timeline and a contribution you can live with.

By Aisha Mehta · Personal finance writer

A home goal fails when it stays a feeling. Name the target amount, the year, and what must already be protected—emergency cushion, essentials, existing EMIs.

Work backward to a monthly contribution. If the number breaks the month, extend the timeline or reduce scope before you start. Ambition that starves essentials is not a plan.

Reconnect the goal to instruments only after the monthly action is believable. SIPs and FDs are tools; the decision is whether the month can fund the life you want.
